Professorship (W3) in the Field of Structural Mechanics in Lightweight Design
Technische Universität Hamburg (TUHH)
In line with the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg’s ambition to further develop the city into a knowledge metropolis, Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) is expanding its activities in research and teaching. With its strategy of growth TUHH aims to expand its position as a leading international, interdisciplinary, and innovative university of technology. TUHH is a modern and dynamic university, striving for international excellence in research and teaching. It sets the ideal conditions for unlocking the knowledge and innovation potential of today’s technological challenges by combining its engineering expertise in the three focal areas Green Technologies, Life Science Technologies and Aviation and Maritime Systems with cross-cutting research on
digitization and new materials. As a part of its educational strategy TUHH is developing new, international degree programs for tomorrow’s engineers, building on its excellent reputation for innovation in teaching and learning for the engineering sciences.
TUHH’s strategy of growth envisages closer collaboration and networking with other scientific institutions in the Hamburg metropolitan region as well as strategic
collaboration with industrial partners in application-oriented research.
PROFESSORSHIP W3 IN THE FIELD OF STRUCTURAL MECHANICS IN LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN Ref. No. P2013
The School of Mechanical Engineering seeks applications that contribute to research and teaching in the context of digital twins and design for manufacturability. The successful applicant is expected to have an excellent track record in the field of modern computer-aided modeling, simulation, and computational methods in structural mechanics. In addition, extensive experience in at least one of the following fields is required:
Computational methods for additive manufacturing components
Experimental model validation
Modeling, simulation, and optimization of lightweight structures
Robust optimization (shape and topology optimization)
Structural health monitoring & prediction of damage development
Stability and endurance strength of lightweight structures
Uncertainty quantification and modeling of uncertainties
We are looking for a candidate who can contribute outstanding research to the TUHH research areas, especially in the field of aircraft construction and digitization. Experience in the acquisition of national and/or international third-party funding and work experience in the industry is an advantage.
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching core mechanics courses in both German and English. They are also expected to participate in finite element teaching and teaching in the area of computer-aided methods in structural mechanics.
This position is due to commence in the 2021/2022 winter term.
The TUHH acknowledges exceptional and innovative teaching achievements and capabilities. Successful applicants will therefore contribute to TUHH’s prominent profile of innovative teaching methods with high quality undergraduate (B.Sc.) and graduate (M.Sc.) courses. The courses are in English and German; for non-German speakers a willingness to learn German is expected.
TUHH is an equal opportunity employer and particularly welcomes and encourages applications from women. It is certified as a family-friendly university and supports dual careers. Applications by disabled persons with equal qualifications will be given preference
