The Institute of Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences of Goethe University Frankfurt/Main,
Germany, invites applications for the following position:
Professorship (W3) in Sociology with a Special Focus
on Sociological Theory and History of Theory
The successful applicant will have an excellent research profile and outstanding teaching skills
in the fields of Sociological Theory and History of Theory. He/She will have published
internationally visible papers related to the current discussion on theory and history of ideas.
He/She is also expected to demonstrate proven knowledge in the traditions of critical social
theory as documented by pertinent publications. The position opens from 01-04-2018.
The applicant will be willing to participate in current and planned research projects and be
committed to teaching on a wide scale in all the Faculty’s degree programmes. The successful
candidate will also be involved in teacher training. Experience in teaching at school and novel
ideas regarding this topic would be welcome. Experience in securing third party funding is an
