W3 PROFESSORSHIP FOR SOCIOLOGY / TRANSNATIONALISM, MIGRATION AND LABOUR
The
Faculty of Social Science at Ruhr-Universität Bochum seeks to fill a W3 Professorship for Sociology / Transnationalism, Migration and Labour (anticipated starting date: winter semester 2021).
The professorship addresses fundamental questions related to various processes of internationalisation in which labour and migration play a major role. Candidates should be proven experts on at least two of the three following fields of work:
- transnationalism in the context of other forms of internationalisation (e.g. globalisation, supra-nationalisation, glocalisation),
- development tendencies of labour and labour relations in the context of transnationalism and migration,
- preconditions, forms and consequences of migration processes (particularly labour migration) for emigration and immigration societies.
Furthermore, knowledge of one or several of the following research areas are welcome:
- research on developing countries,
- theories of societal development and social change,
- (international) comparative methodology.
The professorship has to provide basic and specialised modules in bachelor programmes as well as classes in master programmes, particularly in “Management and regulation of work, business and organisation” and “Globalisation, transnationalism and governance”. The professorship contributes to the faculty’s research clusters “Globalisation textures” and “Labour and social structure” – respectively the corresponding strategic research areas „Mobility, migration and interculturality“ as well as „New work“ and it takes part in the interdisciplinary cooperation with other teaching and research units at the faculty and the university. Regarding internationalization the professorship should keep a special focus on shaping The European University of Postindustrial Cities (UNIC).
Positively evaluated junior professorship, a habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements, evidence of specific aptitude for academic teaching as well as readiness to participate in the self-governing bodies are mandatory. Other mandatory requirements include:
- strong commitment to academic teaching,
- willingness to engage within interdisciplinary research and collaboration,
- willingness and proven ability to attract significant third-party funded research projects.
