The professorship is associated with the position as Director of Fraunhofer UMSICHT, which includes the scientific and entrepreneurial management and development of the institute within the Fraunhofer model and the overall Fraunhofer strategy.

PROFESSORSHIP (W3) FOR RESPONSIBLE PROCESS ENGINEERING
in association with the position of
DIRECTOR OF THE FRAUNHOFER INSTITUTE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL, SAFETY AND ENERGY TECHNOLOGY UMSICHT
Tasks
You will be involved in the teaching in the Master's and Bachelor's degree programs of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and in research you will bridge the gap between basic and applied research. Combining research and teaching, you will focus on one or more of the following areas:
- Responsible and sustainable process, environmental, and energy engineering
- Systems engineering for a circular economy and value cycles
- Material cycles for sustainable industrial production
- Cross-sectoral hydrogen technology
In your new role, you will competently represent your key topics in the research community as well as in research and technology management vis-à-vis research funding organizations and research partners. The further expansion of the strategic connection between the university and the Fraunhofer Institute is a personal concern of yours.
The directorate of the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety, and Energy Technology UMSICHT requires active involvement in the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft as well as in national and international research networks.
Interdisciplinary cooperation is expected within the faculty, across faculties with professorships especially in the natural sciences, mathematics and computer science, but also with the humanities. With the professorship, you will be committed to active participation in the Research Departments Closed Carbon Cycle Economy and Materials Research, as well as in the RUB's Cluster of Excellence RESOLV, in the Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy CCPE and in the joint High Performance Center of the RUB and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft DYNAFLEX® – Dynamic, and Flexible Technologies for the Energy Transition and Raw Materials Shift.
Requirements
You have excellent national and international scientific credentials in the fields described and have the ability to develop new perspectives and projects for larger research networks. You have many years of experience in heading large, interdisciplinary research groups and in strategic planning, acquisition and implementation of large-scale national and international research and development projects in relevant business areas.
The ability and willingness to teach courses in English is expected.
Recruitment requirements
A positively evaluated junior professorship, habilitation or equivalent scientific achievements, e.g. in industry, as well as proof of special suitability for academic teaching are required, as is the willingness to participate in academic self-administration.
In all other respects, the employment requirements according to §36 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act apply.
