At the Medical Faculty Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg, the
W 3 PROFESSORSHIP FOR OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY
(SUCCESSOR PROF. DR. MED. KARL HÖRMANN)
is to be appointed again as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will be able to represent fully the field of otorhinolaryngology in research, teaching and
healthcare. The University Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology Mannheim is expected to continue to offer a broad range of
diagnostics and therapy for otorhinolaryngological diseases. The candidate’s main area of expertise should be in
otorhinolaryngological surgery and tumor surgery. Additional competence in the specialist fields of oncological,
plastic and cochlear implant surgery, as well as in sleeping disorders is expected. The candidate’s research
interests should lie within the areas of vascular, oncological or functional otorhinolaryngology, as active
involvement in the faculties’ core research themes (oncology, vascular biology and medicine, medical technology,
neural plasticity and pain research) is anticipated. Intensive participation in the design and implementation of
teaching in the field of otorhinolaryngology is expected within the MaReCuMplus medical degree program.
Applicants should have acquired a university degree, a doctoral degree, and additional academic achievements that
in accordance with § 47 para 2 of the Landeshochschulgesetz should be demonstrated by a Habilitation, a successfully
evaluated Junior professorship or comparable qualifications. Licensing as a medical specialist for otorhinolaryngology,
an international reputation in clinical and basic research, as well as didactic competence is expected, together with
cooperation and leadership abilities, commitment to the further development of the MaReCuMplus study program, and
engagement in academic self-governance.
The candidate will participate in patient care at the University Hospital Mannheim. The professorship is linked to the
directorship of the Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic of the University Hospital Mannheim. A separate contract will be concluded
with the Klinikum Mannheim GmbH - University Hospital.
The position is available indefinitely. If general civil servant eligibility and budgetary conditions are fulfilled,
then direct appointment to permanent civil servant status is usually made.
