W 3 PROFESSOR FOR ORTHOPEDICS
(SUCCESSOR PROF. DR. MED. H.-P. SCHARF)
The successful candidate will be able to represent fully the field of orthopedics and trauma surgery in research, teaching and healthcare, and will be appointed as the director of the Center for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (OUZ) of the University Medical Center Mannheim. The OUZ is expected to continue to offer a wide range of diagnostics and therapies for various diseases in the field of orthopedics and trauma surgery. At present, a C 3 professorship is associated with the OUZ. The medical expertise of the successful candidate should focus primarily on reconstructive joint-surgery, spinal surgery, septic surgery as well as on oncological and geriatric orthopedics.
Scientifically the applicant should have specific expertise in the field of medical technologies, and will be expected to participate actively in this research area, which is a major focus of investigation in the Medical Faculty. Furthermore, a significant contribution to additional major research areas of the Faculty such as oncology, vascular biology and medicine as well as translational neuroscience is expected. The successful applicant will also be required to actively design and implement medical teaching in the field of orthopedics and trauma surgery within the MaReCuMplus medical degree program.
Applicants should have acquired a university degree, a doctoral degree, and additional academic achievements that in accordance with § 47 para 2 of the Landeshochschulgesetz should be demonstrated by a Habilitation, a successfully evaluated Junior professorship or comparable qualifications. Licensing as a medical specialist for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery, an international reputation in clinical and basic research, as well as didactic competence is expected, together with cooperation and leadership abilities, commitment to the further development of the MaReCuMplus study program, and engagement in academic self-governance.
The candidate will participate in patient care at the University Hospital Mannheim. The professorship is linked to the direction of the Center for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (OUZ) of the University Medical Center Mannheim. A separate contract will be concluded with the Universitätsklinikum Mannheim GmbH – University Hospital.
The position is available indefinitely. If general civil servant eligibility and budgetary conditions are fulfilled, then direct appointment to permanent civil servant status can be made.
