In Division III - Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the KIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology invites applications for permanent employment as

W3 Professor for Methods of Communications Engineering

and Member of the Board of the Communications Engineering Lab (CEL) as of the next possible date.
We are looking for a person, who is to represent in research and academic education the field of methods of communications engineering for self-optimizing and resilient communication networks. Applicants should be experienced and have a high reputation in several of the following areas focusing on the communication engineering aspects:
  • Access techniques and protocols for communication networks, especially mobile communications and cellular networks (e.g., OpenRAN)
  • Design and optimization of network architectures, e.g., for mobile communications and data centers
  • Dynamic, self-optimizing communication networks based on programmable and virtualized network elements
  • Time-critical communication (low-latency, real-time networking), e.g., for smart factories (industry 4.0)
  • Ad-hoc networks (e.g., for car-to-car communications)
  • Security in access networks (e.g., radio communication networks) and secure data transmission
  • Cooperative and coordinated communication networks (relaying, coordinated multipoint)
  • Network information theory
Candidates should have an internationally outstanding scientific qualification, excellent didactic skills, and leadership experience. Experience gained in industry, close-to-industry research, start-ups, and in the acquisition of third-party funding is desired.
In the area of academic education, candidates are expected to actively participate in existing and newly established German and English study programs offered by the KIT Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as in related programs offered by other departments of KIT. Besides courses in the field covered by the professorship, this also includes basic lectures in bachelor’s programs.
Employment conditions as outlined in Article 47, LHG (Act of Baden-Württemberg on Universities and Colleges) in conjunction with § 20 KITG (KIT-Gesetz) shall apply.
