Professorship (W3) for Mechanics - Material Theory (m/f/d)
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum is one of Germany’s leading research universities, addressing the whole range of academic disciplines. A highly dynamic setting
enables researchers and students to work across the traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. To create networks of knowledge within and
beyond the university is Ruhr-Universität Bochum’s declared aim.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, invites applications for the position of a
Professorship (W3) for Mechanics – Material Theory (m/f/d)
to start on March 1st, 2024.
We are looking for a nationally and internationally visible, scientifically outstanding personality. The candidate should have successfully published results with a strong connection to fundamental research and be capable of inspiring students and group members to engage with their research area. A good connection with the international and national scientific mechanics community as well as leadership experience are considered advantageous. The future holder of the position is expected to extend the existing core research topics of the department and to actively develop these in interdisciplinary cooperation with other research units of the department and the university.
Outstanding performance in several of the following areas is required:
Modeling of nonlinear and inelastic material response
Analytical and numerical multiscale methods
Simulation of multiphysics problems
Methods for the validation based on experimental data
The research activities should be characterized by a strong connection to applications in the fields of civil and mechanical engineering. Positive evaluation as a junior professor, a habilitation or equivalent academic achievements and proof of special qualification for academic teaching are as much required as the willingness to participate in the academic self-government.
Furthermore, we expect:
strong commitment to academic teaching, especially for undergraduate students of civil, mechanical, and environmental engineering, including involvement in the department's English language course programs,
readiness and proven ability to acquire, to lead, and to process significant externally funded research projects, and to participate in coordinated research programs,
willingness to operate and enhance the existing laboratory for research and teaching.
The Ruhr-Universität Bochum stands for diversity and equal opportunities. For this reason, we favour a working environment composed of heterogeneous teams, and seek to promote the careers of individuals who are underrepresented in our respective professional areas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum expressly requests job applications from women. In areas in which they are underrepresented they will be given preference in the case of equivalent qualifications with male candidates. Applications from individuals with disabilities are most welcome.
Applications with the usual documents (cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications, evidence of special suitability for academic teaching, list of engineering projects worked on,
details of research interests, list of own third-party funding, description of the three most significant achievements), exclusively in digital form, are requested by
