to be filled by April 1st, 2018. The position includes the cooperative leadership of the Geodetic
The professorship for Geodetic Earth System Sciences (formerly Physical and Satellite Geodesy)
focuses preferentially on the determination of the Earth's gravity field, the geodetic
measurement of deformations of the Earth’s surface as well as on the development of models
for System Earth from geodetic and geophysical perspectives. Furthermore, the profile of the
position is closely linked to the research activities of the internationally renowned Black Forest
We are looking for a person with proven scientific expertise, who excellently represents the
Geodetic Earth System Sciences in research and teaching with particular emphasis on modelling
aspects. The successful candidate has broad experience in and shall substantially contribute
to research fields relevant for this professorship, like analytical and numerical modelling
of the gravity field, recent geodynamics as well as innovative satellite-based observation
techniques including their fusion with terrestrial methods.
It is expected that the research activities are flanked by active acquisition of external funding.
The willingness to an interdisciplinary collaboration with KIT institutions - with special focus
on BFO - as well as within the national and international community concerning research and
teaching is mandatory. A transfer of the developed innovative methods to industry and survey
authorities is highly desirable.
The teaching load of the professorship includes courses in the bachelor and master program
of Geodesy and Geoinformatics as well as export to other courses of neighbouring KIT-departments,
featuring the fields of earth measurement, satellite geodesy, SAR-interferometry,
geodynamics and reference systems as well as mathematical geodesy. Particular importance
is attached to pedagogical aptitude, didactical skills and open-mindedness for innovations in
