The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is an internationally established university with

The Institute of Construction Informatics, Applied Mathematics and Building
Physics in the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is
seeking to fill the following position as of April 1st, 2023:
»Data Engineering in Construction«
Against the background of the increasingly significant possibilities concerning the
application of artificial intelligence in civil engineering, the professorship is to involve
research and teaching using several of the following novel methods:
data acquisition (incl. sensor technology, distributed sensor networks, cyberphysical
data analysis (incl. data analytics, machine learning),
data modelling (incl. semantic web, linked data) and
data visualisation (incl. visual analytics)
for the built environment. Examples of applications in this context include digital
twins, additive manufacturing, intelligent building materials and components,
energy-efficient building design and building monitoring.
We are looking for a personality with experience in the specified topics and who is
particularly interested in issues connected to civil engineering, which increasingly
combine technical, sociological, ecological and economic aspects. The willingness
for interdisciplinary cooperation in the key research area »Digital Engineering«
with partners from participating faculties is required.
Necessary prerequisites include a recognised university degree with demonstrably
sound scientific qualifications in the above-mentioned fields of work; pedagogical
aptitude; special aptitude for scientific work, usually evidenced by a doctoral
degree with a grade of »very good«; and a habilitation (post-doctoral degree)
or equivalent qualification. In addition to experience in successfully acquiring
third-party funding, the applicant is expected to make a solid and sustainable
contribution to basic research (DFG, etc.) as well as to applied research in order
to generate third-party funding and implement corresponding doctoral studies.
Candidates are also required to possess strong leadership and organisational skills.
Excellent didactic skills and experience in teaching – also in English – are basic
prerequisites for successful employment within the institution. The expected
teaching programme of the professorship includes lectures on the fundamentals
of construction and environmental informatics (e. g. programming, geometry and
