Full-time position
Technical University of Munich (TUM)
Heilbronn
Technische Universität München (TUM) - Logo
The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is setting up a new innovative Center for Informatics at the TUM Campus Heilbronn. A total of 9 professorships in the fields of computer engineering, theoretical and practical computer science, endowed by the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, are to be established.
The TUM herewith invites applications for the position of

Professor
in »Efficient Algorithms«

to begin as soon as possible. The position is a W2 fixed-term position (6 years) with tenure track option to a tenured W3 position (Associate Professor) or a tenured W3 (Associate or Full) position.
Scientific Environment
The Heilbronn region is a strong and successful high-tech region in Europe with many cooperation opportunities and a wide variety of educational institutions. The professorship belongs to the Department of Informatics – in the future to the TUM School of Computation, Information & Technology – and will be part of the TUM Campus Heilbronn, a new vibrant center for research and teaching. With the Center for Digital Transformation and the Global Center for Family Enterprise of the TUM School of Management, TUM Campus Heilbronn provides a multitude of possibilities for scientific collaborations in the areas of management, engineering and digital transformation. The new Center for Informatics complements the TUM Campus Heilbronn with a digital profile and bridges the divide between management and digitalization. Its focus will be in information engineering – a key component in the digital transformation of companies.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists in the full spectrum of Informatics. Together with the professorships in economics of the TUM School of Management funded since 2018, the new professors will engage in research and teaching at the interface of management and technology. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Efficient Algorithms. The teaching load includes courses in the university’s bachelor’s and master’s programs. The successful candidate will also participate in building up and shaping the profile of the new Center for Informatics as well as establish new study programs at the TUM Campus Heilbronn.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, relative to the relevant career level (please see www.tum.de/en/faculty-recruiting-faq/ for further information).
A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected.
Our Offer
Based on the best international standards and transparent performance criteria, TUM offers a merit-based academic career path for tenure track faculty from Assistant Professor through a permanent position as Associate Professor, and on to Full Professor. The regulations of the TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System apply. TUM provides excellent working conditions in a lively scientific community, embedded in the vibrant research environment of the Campus Heilbronn. The TUM environment is multicultural, with English serving as a common interface for scientific interaction.
The TUM Munich Dual Career Office (MDCO) provides tailored career consulting to the partners of newly appointed professors. The MDCO assists the relocation and integration of new professors, their partners and accompanying family members.
Your Application
TUM is an equal opportunity employer and explicitly encourages applications from women. Applications from disabled persons with essentially the same qualifications as other candidates will be given preference.
Application documents should be submitted in accordance with TUM’s application guidelines for professors. These guidelines and detailed information about the TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System are available at www.tum.de/faculty-recruiting. Here you will also find TUM’s information on collecting and processing personal data as part of the application process.
Please send your application no later than October 31, 2021 to the Dean of the Department of Informatics, Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Bungartz, Email address for applications: bewerbung.dekanat@in.tum.de.
