The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Precision Engineering, Information Technology (efi) is seeking to appoint a
Professor of Mobile Robotics
at pay grade W 2, as of October 1, 2021.
Qualifications / Responsibilities
The field of mobile robotics requires an instructor who is able to incorporate the current state of the art into the curriculum due to their practical and active project work. The successful applicant shall be able to teach curriculum from and take responsibility for applied research in the field. The candidate should have profound theoretical and practical knowledge in the development of complex hardware and software systems to solve key issues of mobile robotics, such as the stable navigation of mobile systems, mastery of complex kinematic chains, or the construction of robotic control architectures. Advanced practical experience in these areas is required. Demonstrated success in securing third-party funding is also expected.
Proven competence in one or more of the following subjects is preferable:
Sensor technology for surveillance and exploration with mobile robots
Actuator engineering for mobile robotic systems
Processing of sensor data and sensor data fusion
Algorithmics for navigation (localization, cartography, path planning, and path following)
Integration of hardware and software components in modern robot control architectures
Teaching courses in fundamental subjects and in related fields is also expected.
For the first five years, the teaching load is reduced by 50% in favor of research. An essential task for this professorship is to attract third-party funding. The successful candidate will support the development of young researchers and engage in knowledge and technology transfer. The cooperative advancement and coordination of research activities within the Laboratory for Mobile Robotics will be a significant part of the job.
The applicant should be open to interdisciplinary cooperation with other Faculties, institutes, or competence centers and be internationally active to achieve the university’s aims. After five years the teaching load reduction can be extended if the research activities are evaluated positively. The successful applicant will also be engaged in the academic self-administration of the Faculty.
In addition, international work experience is desirable and it is expected that you can teach courses in English and German.
A completed university degree is required. Research potential is measured by the quality of the achieved research degree (doctorate) or via alternative evidence (such as an official certification that the candidate has achieved a level commensurate to a doctorate). Appropriate pedagogical skills and special accomplishments in the application or development of academic insight and methods in professional practice must be demonstrated. Candidates must have a minimum of five years professional experience subsequent to the completion of a university degree, of which at least three years must have been spent outside an academic setting. In special cases the proof of non-university professional experience can be provided by verifying that a significant part of employment occurred in cooperation between the university and non-university professional practice over a period of at least five years.
Employment may either be under civil service law or private law according to the applicable regulations and requirements.
Disabled applicants will receive priority selection in cases where these candidates have equivalent qualifications, abilities, and skills compared to others.
The Nuremberg Institute of Technology is trying to significantly raise the proportion of women in academic teaching and therefore encourages suitably qualified female candidates to apply. Similar to disabled applicants and according to current legislation, women will be given priority in placement. The Nuremberg Institute of Technology is a certified “family-friendly workplace”.
Then take the next step and join us to reach your career goals. We look forward to receiving your application until July 15, 2021. Please apply online using our application portal.
