Subject to the availability of funding, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences is seeking, at the earliest opportunity and for an unlimited period, to fill the following full-time post in the Department of Social Work, Health and Media at ist Magdeburg site:
W2 Professor of Language and Communication in Organisations
The Department of Social Work, Health and Media has an interdisciplinary focus and offers undergraduate and advanced BA and MA degree programmes in different disciplines.
We are seeking to appoint someone who is interested in further developing and taking responsibility for the profile areas of the university through practical teaching and applied research.
The post holder will be responsible for teaching (16 weekly hours per semester) in the newly conceived German & English language Bachelor’s degree programme in “Language and Communication in Organisations (LCO)” at the university’s Magdeburg campus. The role of the professorship will be to convey the principles of Applied Linguistics, Project Management and Organisational Communication, and in particular in terms of their importance for operating and value creation processes with the emphasis on language and communication services.
The teaching will comprise theoretical, practical and project-based events in the area of metalinguistic competence, translation, technical communication and interaction in organisations. Students should be motivated to develop their different linguistic skills and to use them for a professional qualification as language services providers in organisations. In addition to this is the relaying of communication practices in non-profit and profit-making organisations as well as of methods of analysis, design and implementation of informative communication media and formats in the named contexts.
Within the scope of the professorship, contributions to research and transfer in the field of Applied Linguistics, interdisciplinary development of theories, strategies and methods of project management organisation and specialist and organisational communication (e.g. communicative topology, situated communication, cognitive linguistics) will be expected.
Furthermore, the responsibilities of the professorship will also include:
active involvement in the organisation of teaching and studies and development of the subject area, the internationalisation of the department and the academic self-governance of the university.
It is self-evident that the post holder will make contributions to technology and knowledge transfer.
Applications are welcomed from individuals who will enter into a scientific discourse with us and initiate new research and study projects whilst focusing on their own innovative areas of interest.
You will have completed a university degree. You will have an above-average doctorate with relevance to Applied Linguistics and have experience in the leadership of teams. You will be able to demonstrate your pedagogic aptitude through teaching experience in the area covered by this appointment. Furthermore, you will have practical and research experience with regard to operational and organisational interaction taking into account the linguistic, communicative and other resources in different settings (non-profit or profit-making organisations). Alongside fluency in the German language, excellent written and spoken English language skills must be demonstrated.
Experience in using the commonly used software and other tools in the field of technical communication is expected. Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding and the support of research and knowledge transfer projects will be advantageous. Experience abroad is also highly desirable.
General Conditions of Employment:
The conditions of employment for professors are contained in § 35 of the current version of the Higher Education Act of the state of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA). These include a university degree, pedagogic ability, and a particular aptitude for scientific work, which will generally have been demonstrated by the acquisition of a good quality doctoral degree. Over and above this, particular achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods must have been demonstrated through professional practice, at least three years of which must have been outside of the higher education sector.
What we offer:
Subject to fulfilment of the requirements, the successful candidate will be appointed to the rank of civil servant with unlimited tenure or alternatively to an unlimited employment relationship under private law, in accordance with § 38 para. 1 sentence 9 HSG LSA.
A post remunerated at W2 level is available for the professorship (Remuneration Order W from the Act Reforming Remuneration Law in the State of Saxony-Anhalt (BesNeuRG LSA, official gazette 04/2011) as amended).
