Subject to the availability of funding, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences is seeking to fill, by 01.10.2019, the following post in the Department of Water, Environment, Civil Engineering and Safety
W2 Professor of Building Physics
The chair is responsible for the teaching and research aspects of the subject of building physics with the emphasis on specialist energy planning within
the context of the focal areas of the Department of Water, Environment, Civil Engineering and Safety.
We are seeking a teacher with proven academic and practical experience, who preferably will demonstrate proficiency and achievement in several of the following subject areas:
Steady/unsteady heat, moisture and mass transfer
Airborne and structure-borne sound transfer and architectural acoustics
Principles of lighting systems
Building physics-related materials science, including environmental accounting
Specialist energy planning
Evidence of winter and summer thermal insulation, plus moisture protection and sound-proofing
Lighting planning (natural and artificial light)
Passive buildings, energy-efficient buildings
Building physics laboratory tests and measurements; e.g. thermography, building tightness measurements, architectural acoustics measurement, thermal
transmittance, water absorption, natural and artificial light measurements
Applicants are required to have completed a university degree. An above-average doctorate in the subject area of building physics or civil engineering /
architecture with an identifiable focus on building physics and relevant practical experience are expected. With regard to teaching, as well as in laboratory
classes, the chair is primarily involved in the Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Civil Engineering and Energy-Efficient Building Construction and
Reconstruction in the Department of Water, Environment, Civil Engineering and Safety. When required, the post holder should also be capable of taking responsibility
for the competent, practically-oriented teaching of adjacent subject areas, especially Building Services Engineering and Energy Accounting.
In principle, the language of tuition is German, however a requirement of the post is a readiness to deliver courses in the English language, which may also be
conducted in blocks at foreign partner universities. Alongside a b commitment to teaching, active involvement in the acquisition of third-party funding and interdisciplinary
technical cooperation are also expected. A further requirement is that professors should be prepared to take on teaching responsibilities in their subject area on other courses
at the university. A commitment to technology and knowledge transfer and university self-governance is expected.
General Conditions of Employment:
The conditions of employment for professors are contained in 35 of the Higher Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA) dated 05.05.2004 as amended in the announcement
dated 14.12.2010, and most recently amended by the act amending the provisions of employment law dated 13.06.2018 (official gazette LSA page 72) and the guidelines on the
procedures for appointing professors at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences dated 13.06.2018 (BerufungsRL), as amended. The ability to conduct scientific work must
have been demonstrated by the conferral of a doctorate. Furthermore, for professors at universities of applied sciences, the provisions of 35 paragraph 2 no. 4 b HSG LSA also
apply. Particular achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods must have been demonstrated through several years of professional practice,
at least three years of which must have been outside of the higher education sector. Remuneration is in accordance with W2 of Remuneration Order W from the Act Reforming
Remuneration Law in the State of Saxony-Anhalt (BesNeuRG LSA, official gazette 04/2011) as amended.
Subject to fulfilment of the requirements, the successful candidate will be appointed to the rank of civil servant with unlimited tenure or alternatively to an unlimited
employment relationship under private law, in accordance with Ô 38 para. 1 sentence 9 HSG LSA.
