The Faculty of Geosciences at the Ruhr-University Bochum invites applications for the position of a
Professorship (W2) (m/f/d) for Geography Education (m/f/d)
commencing 01.04.2024.
We are looking for an outstanding scientist who can demonstrate internationally visible achievements in research and teaching as well as an above-average acquisition of third-party funds and thus make an important contribution to the further profile of the Faculty and the Institute of Geography.
The successful candidate will be expected to represent the subject of Geography Education in research as well as teaching. The professor for Geography Education is primarily responsible for teacher training and expected to provide students with the subject-specific expertise for their later work as teachers through theory-based, methodologically diverse and practice-oriented university courses. The candidate has to be experienced in empirical research on learning and instruction. Furthermore, a research focus on the field of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and international publications are desirable. In addition, a research focus in the field of Scientific Literacy is beneficial.
The future professor for Geography Education has to hold basic and advanced lectures in German on the didactics of geography for grammar schools and comprehensive schools and contribute to the subject-specific training in the B.A., B.Sc. and M.Ed. degree programmes including the supervision of theses.
The future professor for Geography Education is required to cooperate with the Professional School of Education (PSE), other didactics of STEM disciplines, the Alfried Krupp Laboratory for Elementary and High School Students and the RUB's general research on learning and instruction. Through active participation in the Center of Educational Studies and the Graduate School of Educational Studies, the professorship contributes to the further development of didactic research and the promotion of young researchers at RUB. Applicants are expected to be willing to work on the Institute's main focus "Transformation of Metropolitan Regions". The future professor shall engage in transdisciplinary research collaborations with actors beyond academia and assume societal responsibility in knowledge transfer, especially in the Ruhr Region.
Candidates need a successfully completed teacher training in the subject of Geography with a subsequent PhD in the field of Geography Education. In addition, a positively evaluated Junior-Professorship,
a habilitation in Geography Education or academic achievements equivalent to a habilitation are obligatory as well as competences in academic teaching and the willingness to participate in academic
