Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences offers a range of engineering,
economics, health and human sciences courses to over 6,200 students across two sites.

Subject to the availability of funding, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences
is seeking to fill, by 01.04.2019, the following post in the Department of Water,
Environment, Civil Engineering and Safety at its Magdeburg site:
In coordination with the existing teaching staff, the post holder will independently take
over teaching duties in the area of soil mechanics and soil engineering on the Bachelor‘s
degree programmes in Civil Engineering, Water Management, and Recycling and Waste
Management, as well as on the Master‘s programme in Civil Engineering specialising
in Foundation and Road Construction Particular areas of emphasis are conveying basic
principles of soil mechanics plus current developments in foundation construction. Associated
subject areas should also be taught competently and with a practical orientation.
Where applicable, it may be necessary to take over teaching duties in other areas. The
post holder should take an active role in research. To this end, a well-equipped laboratory
and modern large-scale experimental equipment are available. Contacts with the regional
environment and with companies and institutions on a national and international
level are desirable.
Applicants will be expected to hold a university degree in the subject of Civil Engineering
with the focus on / majoring in soil mechanics and engineering, geotechnics, mining or
hydraulic engineering, relevant practical experience in the fields mentioned plus teaching
experience. He or she should have in-depth knowledge and practical experience of
geotechnical experimentation.
Within the context of the internationalisation of Magdeburg Stendal University of Applied
Sciences and the related activities of the Department, foreign language skills, in
particular in English, are desirable.
General Conditions of Employment:
The conditions of employment for professors are contained in § 35 of the Higher Education
Act of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA) dated 05.05.2004 and most recently amended
by the Act Amending the Provisions of Higher Education Law dated 26.07.2010 (official
gazette 19/2010).
The ability to conduct scientific work must have been demonstrated by the conferral of
a doctorate. In particular, for professors in universities of applied sciences, it is the case
that in accordance with § 35 para. 2 no. 4b (HSG LSA), specific achievements in the application
or development of scientific knowledge and methods must have been demonstrated
in professional practice of several years‘ duration, of which at least three years must
have been outside the higher education sphere. Remuneration is in accordance with W2
of Remuneration Order W from the Act Reforming Remuneration Law in the State of
Saxony-Anhalt (BesNeuRG LSA, official gazette 04/2011) as amended.
A further requirement is that professors should be prepared to take on teaching responsibilities
in their subject area on other courses at the University. A commitment to technology
and knowledge transfer and University self-governance is also expected. Professors
should be prepared to reside within the University catchment area.
Subject to fulfilment of the requirements, the successful candidate would be appointed
to the rank of civil servant with unlimited tenure or alternatively to an unlimited employment
relationship under private law, in accordance with § 38 para. 1 line 9 HSG LSA.
