W2 Professorship in Socio-Scientific
Technology Research (m/f/o)
The teaching role comprises the subject areas of societal and social requirements of technological developments, their spread and acceptance as well as the repercussions of technical solutions on social relationships, health and/or on working and living conditions, plus the way we live our day-to-day lives. Instead of concentrating on the acceptance of technical solutions, an approach is pursued that considers pragmatic problems in the living environment and advances the participative development of technical solutions.
Candidates should have experience in the application and development / implementation of technical systems in the social and/or health sectors (among others the digitalisation of services, AAL (ambient assisted living), e-health).
The post holder will be responsible for teaching and developing the subject area on the newly developed bachelor‘s degree in Human-Technology Interaction for a total of 16 lecture periods per semester.
Furthermore, the post holder will be expected
to be prepared to teach and be involved in the new interdisciplinary "Human-Technology Interaction" programme, which is offered jointly by the Departments of Social Work, Health and Media, Engineering and Industrial Design (both at the Magdeburg site) and Applied Human Sciences (Stendal site).
to be prepared to further develop the course offering in respect of "Human-Technology Interaction" and the realisation of innovative curricular concepts (e. g. innovative forms of teaching and learning to bridge the distance between the two sites) and their implementation in terms of higher education didactics,
to be prepared to take an active role in academic self-governance,
to have experience in regional and local networking and in cooperating with partners from the field.
Your application should contain proof of
a completed degree in Social or Health Sciences,
thematically relevant theoretical and empirically-based research and publication experience,
plus the readiness to critically reflect upon these in your teaching.
You should also be able to demonstrate a particular aptitude for scientific work, which can be evidenced by a post-doctoral degree in one of the above-mentioned specialities.
General Conditions of Employment:
The conditions of employment for professors are contained in § 35 of the Higher Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA) dated 05.05.2004 and most recently amended by the Act Amending the Provisions of Higher Education Act dated 26.07.2010 (official gazette 19/2010) as amended, and the Guidelines on the Procedures for Appointing Professors at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences dated 13/06/2018 (BerufungsRL) as amended.
The ability to conduct scientific work must have been demonstrated by the conferral of a doctorate. In particular, for professors in universities of applied sciences, it is the case that in accordance with § 35 para. 2 no. 4b (HSG LSA), specific achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods must have been demonstrated in professional practice of several years‘ duration, of which at least three years must have been outside the higher education sphere. Remuneration is in accordance with W2 of Remuneration Order W from the Act Reforming Remuneration Law in the State of Saxony-Anhalt (BesNeuRG LSA, official gazette 04/2011) as amended.
A further requirement is that professors should be prepared to take on teaching responsibilities in their subject area on other courses at the university. A commitment to technology and knowledge transfer and university self-governance is expected. Professors should be prepared to reside within the university‘s catchment area.
Subject to fulfilment of the requirements, the successful candidate would be appointed temporarily to the rank of civil servant initially until 31.12.2023, or alternatively would enter into an employment relationship under private law limited until 31.12.2023, in accordance with § 38 para. 1 line 9 HSG LSA. A subsequent conversion to the rank of civil servant with unlimited tenure or to an unlimited employment relationship under private law in accordance with § 38 para. 1 line 9 HSG LSA is possible, subject to meeting the relevant requirements.
