Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences offers a range of engineering, economics, health

Subject to the availability of funding, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences is seeking to
fill, at the earliest opportunity, the following post in the Department of Social Work, Health and
W2 Professorship in Social and
Administrative Law with the
Emphasis on Youth Welfare Law
The Department of Social Work, Health and Media has an interdisciplinary focus and offers basic
and advanced BA and MA degree programmes in different disciplines.
The holder of the advertised post will take responsibility for teaching and research primarily on the
BA programme in Social Work as well as other programmes offered by the department. The
professorship in law focuses on social and administrative law, combined with an emphasis on youth
welfare law. Experience in practical application is desirable. Teaching and research should both
reflect upon gender and diversity constructs as well as life course-related aspects. In keeping with
the alignment of the department, the post holder will be expected to engage in cooperation with
welfare and health care institutions in the region on teaching-related projects and in research, and,
over and above this, to take an active interest in academic self-governance.
The international orientation of the department and the option of providing foreign-language classes
mean that an excellent knowledge of English is desirable.
General Conditions of Employment:
The conditions of employment for professors are contained in § 35 of the Higher Education Act of
Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA) dated 05.05.2004 and most recently amended by the Act Amending the
Provisions of Higher Education Law dated 26.07.2010 (official gazette 19/2010).
The ability to conduct scientific work must have been demonstrated by the conferral of a doctorate.
In particular, for professors in universities of applied sciences, it is the case that in accordance with §
35 para. 2 no. 4b (HSG LSA), specific achievements in the application or development of scientific
knowledge and methods must have been demonstrated in professional practice of several years
duration, of which at least three years must have been outside the higher education sphere.
Remuneration is in accordance with W2 of Remuneration Order W from the Act Reforming
Remuneration Law in the State of Saxony-Anhalt (BesNeuRG LSA, official gazette 04/2011) as
A further requirement is that professors should be prepared to take on teaching responsibilities in
their subject area on other courses at the university. A commitment to technology and knowledge
transfer and university self-governance is also expected. Professors should be prepared to reside
within the university’s catchment area.
Subject to fulfilment of the requirements, the successful candidate would be appointed to the rank of
civil servant with unlimited tenure or alternatively to an unlimited employment relationship under
private law, in accordance with § 38 para. 1 line 9 HSG LSA.
