Subject to the availability of funding, Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences is seeking, for an unlimited period, to fill the following full-time post including 16 lecture periods per week in the Department of Social Work, Health and Media at its Magdeburg site by 01.04.2021:
W2 Professorship in Environment and Health
The Department of Social Work, Health and Media has an interdisciplinary focus and offers undergraduate and advanced BA and MA degree programmes in different disciplines.
The professor will be responsible, on the health-oriented Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes offered at the university's Magdeburg site, for teaching and research in the disciplines of human medicine and biology with respect to their applications to preventative healthcare, health promotion and the health system / healthcare industry. The post holder will undertake teaching and research activities in relation to the medical and human biology principles of human health and disease taking into consideration the human-environment system, as well as in relation to scientific contributions in the subject area of Environment, Ecology and Health. Teaching subjects will include the healthcare-related prevention of (environmental) diseases and the corresponding derivation of target-group-specific approaches to intervention and prevention plus the imparting of (health-related) scientific skills. The post holder will be expected to make scientifically-focused contributions to the interdisciplinary development of theories, strategies and methods of health promotion and preventative healthcare on the basis of the WHO plan in science, education and practice, taking into account the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations and the aspects of sustainability, environmental justice and health equity including national and international political programmes and stakeholders as well as civil society processes. The role includes active involvement in the development of the subject area, in the internationalisation of the department, and involvement in academic self-governance at the university. Over and above this, a commitment to the acquisition and supervision of third-party funded projects is expected. The post-holder will be responsible for organising and coordinating teaching in the modules assigned to the chair.
Candidates are expected to hold a university degree in the field of human biology or human medicine. Additional training / qualifications in environmental medicine / (human) ecology or further / complementary studies in the field of public health are desirable. Where there is particular aptitude, university graduates in health science programmes with proven medical and/or biological teaching and research activities in the context of the environment and health may apply. An appropriate doctorate and relevant practical and teaching experience in the fields of human biology or medicine are also required. Candidates should be able to demonstrate scientific activity in the area of appointment and have professional experience in the health system or healthcare industry and/or in fields of work in preventative healthcare in the context of the environment and health.
General Conditions of Employment:
The conditions of employment for professors are contained in § 35 of the Higher Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA) dated 05.05.2004 and most , recently amended by the Act Amending the Provisions of the Higher Education Act dated 26.07.2010 (official gazette 19/2010) as amended, and the Guidelines on the Procedures for Appointing Professors at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences dated 13.06.2018 (BerufungsRL) as amended. The ability to conduct scientific work must be evidenced by the quality of the doctorate held by the successful candidate. In particular, for professors in universities of applied sciences, it is the case that in accordance with § 35 para. 2 no. 4b HSG LSA, specific achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods must have been demonstrated in professional practice of several years' duration, of which at least three years must have been outside the higher education sphere.
A post remunerated at W2 level is available for the professorship. (Remuneration Order W from the Act Reforming Remuneration Law in the State of Saxony-Anhalt (BesNeuRG LSA, official gazette 04/2011) as amended).
Subject to fulfilment of the requirements, the successful candidate will be appointed to the rank of civil servant with unlimited tenure or alternatively to an unlimited employment relationship under private law, in accordance with § 38 para. 1 sentence 9 HSG LSA.
