We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research in the area of Electrochemical Reaction Engineering. The starting date is as soon as possible.
Against the background of the high demand for innovation in the field of electrochemical processes and the social significance of new carbon dioxide neutral and resource-saving processes, a professorship is installed at RWTH Aachen University and in close cooperation with the Jülich Research Center. The position will focus on the fundamental research of electrochemical processes and in particular the underlying mechanisms and reaction engineering.
RWTH Aachen and Jülich Research Center closely cooperate in the fields of innovative process concepts for the energy transition and utilization of renewable ressources. This cooperation will be further intensified by the announced professorship. The professorship and its candidate will act as a bridge in the field of electrochemical reaction engineering between Aachener Verfahrenstechnik (Aachen Chemical Engineering, AVT) at RWTH Aachen University and IEK-9 (Fundamentals of Electrochemistry) at Jülich Research Center. The position is initially for a five-year tearm. After five years, the position can be tenured at Jülich Research Center upon. The professorship is located in the new research building NGP2 (Next Generation Processes and Products) of AVT and has full access to excellent infrastructure at both the Jülich Research Centre and AVT.
Expertise in the field of electrochemical reaction and process engineering from the microscopic to the technically relevant scale is expected. Experience in the coupling of electrochemical and membrane-based concepts would be desirable. Both experimental and modelling skills of multi-scale phenomena is highly desirable as well. Experience in the area of application and acquisition of third-party funds is required. The candidate will contribute to the research and teaching program of AVT. Teaching tasks comprise participation in the Bachelor programs in Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Engineering and in the Master program in Chemical Engineering.
A Ph.D. degree is required; additionally, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), an exemplary record of research achievement as an assistant / an associate / a junior professor or university researcher and/or an outstanding career outside academia are highly desirable. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching. German is not necessary to begin but will be expected as a teaching language within the first 5 years.
