Technische Universität Berlin, Faculty III – Process Sciences – Institute Energy Engineering invites applications for the position of a
University Professor - salary grade W2
for the chair of "Digital Transformation in Energy Systems".
Reference number: III-9/19 (starting at the earliest possible / permanent / closing date for applications 01/03/19)
Working field: The professorship shall represent the topic in its entirety, i.e. not restricted to distinct sectors.
Classes should be given in the topics of "Energy Systems", "Energy Economics", and "Economic Fundamentals for Engineering" in several engineering programs. Classes
concerning treatment of big data sets in process sciences are also welcome. Classes have to be taught in both German and English language.
Expected future research is on the way digitalization is to be implemented on all scales (local, regional, national, international,
intercontinental) in order to satisfy the energy needs in all sectors (electricity, heat, cold) with least demand on
resources, under the given constraints and limitations of technical, economic, social, political or legal nature; also the
change of these constraints to better supply the needs is to be considered.
Possible topics are:
Trans-sectoral optimization of energy systems on the basis of large data sets, with respect to supply security, economic feasibility, and sustainability
Development and evaluation of concepts for management and control of energy systems in real time
Individualization and decentralization of energy supply systems by digital transformation
(Co-operative) research on related topics in other process-sciences would also be welcome.
Requirements: Candidates must:
fulfill the requirements for appointment at the professorial level in compliance with § 100 BerlHG (Berlin Higher Education Act), including a completed academic education, qualified achievements in
research (PhD), post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent qualification (e.g. documented by the quality of scientific papers beyond the doctorate) and pedagogical-didactic
qualifications, to be given proof of by a teaching portfolio (see homepage direct access 144242)
have subject-specific teaching experience
show the ability to lead a research group
have an internationally excelling research profile within at least one of said topics, documented by high-level publications
have in-depth knowledge of energy technology, energy economics
Preferably, candidates have:
experience in the acquisition and administration of third party-funded projects
international experience and experience in working with interdisciplinary teams
experience in the promotion of junior and female scientists as well as gender mainstreaming
For applicants who do not speak German, a commitment to swiftly learn the German language is expected. Good English language skills are desired.
