The Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) is a modern and dynamic university, striving for international excellence in research and teaching. It sets ideal conditions for unlocking the knowledge and innovation potential of today's technological challenges by combining its engineering expertise in the three focal areas Green Technologies, Life Science Technologies and Aviation and Maritime Systems with cross-cutting research on digitization, engineering methods and new materials.
DESY, with its 2700 employees at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is one of the world's leading research centres. Its research focuses on decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. In this way, DESY contributes to solving the major questions and urgent challenges facing science, society and industry. With its ultramodern research infrastructure, its interdisciplinary research platforms and its international networks, DESY offers a highly attractive working environment in the fields of science, technology and administration as well as for the education of highly qualified young scientists.
The Deutsche Elektronen-Synchroton DESY and the Hamburg University of Technology jointly seek applications for a
PROFESSORSHIP W2 IN THE FIELD OF DATA-DRIVEN CONTROL AND
DIAGNOSIS OF COMPLEX SYSTEMS
Ref. No. P-20-15
When operating complex facilities, such as large-scale accelerators (e.g. the European XFEL at the DESY research center), huge amounts of data are generated that can be utilized for fault diagnosis and improving control schemes. For this purpose, data-driven approaches are needed that facilitate the incorporation of physical insight into the plant. A newly created W2 professorship is being established in cooperation between TUHH and DESY, and will focus on the development of novel approaches in this field. Candidates for this position are expected to have an excellent track record in fundamental and applied research in one or more of the following areas:
- Merging of data-driven and physics-based models for control and diagnosis
- Combined control and diagnosis schemes at the supervisory level of process automation
- Stability and robustness analysis of such schemes
- Scalability and real-time capability of such schemes
The new professor will be assigned to the School of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics. The successful candidate will be actively involved in teaching activities. The successful candidate will preferably give the lecture “Introduction to Control Systems” in the bachelor's degree programs General Engineering Science and Computer Science.
This position is due to commence as soon as possible.
Desy and TUHH are equal opportunity employers and particularly welcome and encourages applications from women. TUHH is certified as a family-friendly university and supports dual careers. Applications by disabled persons with equal qualifications will be given preference.
The legal framework of the Federal Republic of Germany applies (in Hamburg the law is applied pursuant to Section 15 HmbHG). Applicants over the age of 50 cannot expect to be employed as civil servants.
The deadline for applications is January 28, 2021.
Please upload your application (including CV, Ref. No., a list of publications, relevant
certificates, overview of research activities and teaching experience) using the link:
