Professorship in Ethnologie Afrikas
(Cultural / Social Anthropology of Africa,
pay grade: W2/3 Bayreuth track)

This is a permanent civil service position.
The successful candidate will represent the entire spectrum of cultural / social anthropology of Africa. He or she will have extensive experience in teaching and research in the discipline, experience in empirical research, and an innovative research focus that complements Bayreuth‘s existing research areas in cultural / social anthropology.
The postholder will further develop the discipline at the University of Bayreuth with its many intersections in the Faculty of Cultural Studies and will engage in joint research projects. He or she will actively contribute to the University‘s focus areas, in particular African Studies.
Teaching will be in the scope of the bachelor‘s and master‘s programmes relating to African studies, social anthropology (BA Ethnologie, BA Kultur und Gesellschaft, BA and MA Kultur und Gesellschaft Afrikas, MA Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie), and in the Bayreuth International Graduate School for African Studies (BIGSAS).
Requirements for this position (according to Article 7 and Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG) are a university degree, doctoral degree, Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification), and proven excellence in teaching. Evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement, for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered. The ability to teach in the English language is expected. Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants (Article 10 para 3 BayHSchPG).
