Starting on October 1st, 2017, the following position is available at the Institute for Atmospheric
and Environmental Sciences at the Department of Geosciences and Geography at Goethe
University Frankfurt am Main:
Professorship (W1 with Tenure Track)
for atmospheric environmental analytics
The position is initially limited to six years and subject to a midterm review. With its aim of
qualification as set out in the Hessian Higher Education Act in the version of December 9th,
2015, the Professorship (W1) corresponds to the previous Junior (Assistant) Professorship.
Provided that the Professorship (W1) is positively evaluated (tenure track evaluation), the
position will be converted to a tenured W2-Professorship (as civil service or employment).
The research focus of the professorship will be in the field of environmental analytics of the
atmosphere, preferably in the development and application of innovative methods for the
analysis of trace gases, aerosols, cloud elements or precipitation. Expertise in the integrated
analysis of complex experimental data and processes is required. The investigation of chemical
reaction mechanisms, multi-phase chemistry, atmospheric transport processes, as well as
exchange processes between atmosphere and hydrosphere, biosphere or soils may be part of
the research activities.
The successful candidate is expected to participate in all forms of academic education at the
Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences. A focus of the teaching and lecturing will
be on the subject of “Environmental Analytics“ as part of the MSc “Environmental Sciences“.
The successful candidate will also be required to participate in the academic self-government.
Applicants are expected to hold a master's degree in chemistry, environmental sciences,
meteorology, or similar, as well as a PhD. Pedagogical aptitude and the ability for independent
research are required. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of excellence in research,
demonstrated by their PhD work and publications in relevant academic journals.
The successful candidate will establish and lead a research team. Cooperation with other
research teams within Goethe University as well as the participation in coordinated research
projects is expected. The Institute of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences maintains the
Taunus Observatory at Kleiner Feldberg. The active utilisation of this research facility is
