The Faculty of Sociology invites applications for the position of
Professor for social processes in the societies of the global South (W1 or W2)
The professorship is oriented towards social processes, social structures and
transformations in the societies of the global South. Requirements for this position
are profound competencies in social science contexts (e.g. ethnological, socioanthropological,
sociological, socio-economic, political sciences). The successful
applicant will be teaching in all programmes of the faculty, including the
International Track of the MA sociology.
In case of a direct appointment as a permanent W2 professorship experiences in the
acquisition of third-party funding are required. Participation and cooperation in the
core research areas of the faculty, inter-faculty research, as well as in future
collaborative research projects are expected.
The W1 position is limited to three years with the possibility of an additional threeyear
extension after positive evaluation. After another positive evaluation in the final
year, the position will be changed to a permanent W2 professorship.
Prerequisites according to § 36 HG NRW are a university degree in a related subject,
competence in scientific research, evidenced by the quality of the doctoral degree. In
case of a direct appointment as W2 professor, additional scientific achievements,
which will be evaluated exclusively and thoroughly during the appointment process,
as well as the pedagogical qualification, which is either documented by a respective
certificate or evaluated during the selection process, may be required.
