Lifelong Machine Learning

We are looking for a personality who represents the field of "Lifelong Machine Learning" in research and teaching of computer science, and who is scientifically
outstanding in one or more of the following areas:
- Lifelong learning processes (new users/functionalities and modified functionalities)
- Incremental learning
- Continuous online learning
- Active learning
- Transfer learning
- Semi-supervised learning
- Unsupervised learning
- Data generation, augmentation, simulation
- Few shot and zero shot learning
- Scalable learning over a system’s life-cycle
- Machine Learning in Cognitive and Intelligent Systems
- Machine Learning Systems in real-world applications
We are looking for an internationally renowned candidate (f/m/d) with an excellent research record, teaching experience, as well as excellent and internationally recognized scientific achievements in the field of machine learning. The professorship represents and advances the field in research and teaching, and it contributes to the international scientific profile of the department. Commitment to the high-profile area Minds, Media, Machines (MMM) and collaborations with its members and associated institutions will be expected. MMM is an interdisciplinary network of researchers at the University of Bremen and of collaborators at national and international partner institutions aiming to advance research in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, data science, social media, and mobile communication. The professorship is embedded in a strong AI ecosystem with numerous university and non-university research institutes, supported by the AI Strategy of the federal state of Bremen. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the acquisition of research funding, in particular to the Cluster of Excellence Initiative and other collaborative efforts in research and transfer of the high-profile area MMM.
The successful candidate is to be involved in the relevant bachelor's and master's degree programs in Computer Science and Digital Media and participate in cooperative degree programs (e.g., Systems Engineering, Information Systems and Management). The introduction of an English-language Master of Science in "Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Systems" is currently being planned. The teaching portfolio is to include basic modules as well as specialization modules. The willingness to offer courses in German and English is expected; knowledge of one of the languages that is lacking for this purpose should be available after three years at the latest. Furthermore, participation in the concept of "research-based learning" and in the form of project studies is desirable. Initiatives and a willingness to experiment in teaching as well as contributions to the internationalization of the University of Bremen are welcomed.
The Faculty 3 - Mathematics and Computer Science is a medium-sized faculty striving to conduct research and teaching on an international level. With MMM, one of the six interdisciplinary high-profile areas of the University of Bremen, it brings together approximately 35 professors and more than 380 researchers, thereby contributing significantly to the research strength of the university through interdisciplinary cooperation.
In addition to fulfilling the general requirements for employment under civil service law and pedagogical aptitude, applicants must have a special qualification for academic work, as evidenced by a relevant academic university degree, a relevant high-ranking doctorate, international visibility, and scientific achievements equivalent to a lecturer qualification („Habilitation“, for example, junior / assistant professorship, or research group leadership). Non-German-speaking applicants are expected to contribute to German-language teaching after two to three years. The appointment is based on § 18 BremHG and § 116 BremBG.
