Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
The University of Zurich invites applications for a
professorship in German linguistics with focus on the structure of German (open rank)
starting on 1 August 2025.
Depending on the qualifications of the appointee, the professorship will take the form of a chair or a tenure-track assistant professorship.
Candidates are expected to have an outstanding, internationally visible research track record in the field of the structure of present-day German, as well as teaching experience in that field. The research of successful applicants has a strong focus in phonology, morphology, and/or syntax. The professorship contributes to the empirical and theoretical foundation of categories of linguistic analysis, and it relates empirical, preferably experimental, methods with key questions of grammatical theory. Successful candidates are able to familiarize students with the structural regularities of German, research methods, and their theoretical implications. We expect collaboration in research and teaching with other professors at the German department and at other units as well as engagement in interdisciplinary initiatives at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Zurich.
Candidates should hold a PhD degree at the time of application and have an excellent track record of scientific publications.
The German department and the University of Zurich offer an inspiring research and teaching environment with excellent opportunities for academic collaboration. Linguistics in Zurich is involved in various interdisciplinary initiatives. The University of Zurich aims to increase the proportion of women and diversity in research and teaching, and thus explicitly invites applications from suitably qualified individuals.
