The University of Zurich invites applications for a
professorship in Classics /
Latin philology
starting on 1 February 2025.
Candidates are expected to have an outstanding academic record in teaching
and research in the field of Classics/Latin philology, with a focus on Classical
literature. In addition, familiarity with late antique literature (pagan and/or Christian)
is desirable. Familiarity with textual criticism, textual transmission, and an active
interest in digital philology are an asset. In teaching, candidates are expected to
cover the field of Classical Latin Literature in its entire breadth.
We expect the successful candidate to conduct innovative research and to
contribute to the design of study programs of the new institute for the study of the
ancient world, which is currently in preparation. The professorship is intended to
expand cooperation within the faculty, the University of Zurich, and national and
international institutions.
Candidates must hold a PhD degree in Latin and are expected to have completed
their habilitation or equivalent academic qualifications at the time of application.
They must also have excellent achievements and publications in the relevant
field and hold an academic degree in Greek studies (or have acqu ired profound
knowledge of Greek language and literature).
Non-German speaking candidates are expected to have a solid knowledge of
German at the time of appointment and to develop German proficiency sufficient
for teaching within the first three years of their appointment.
