Responsibilities

The professorship focuses on German language education for school education with the core areas of grammar education and acquisition of written language. In research and teaching, it should represent the field of German language education in its entire breadth. The professorship is to be responsible for the teaching programs (polyvalent Bachelor of German Studies, Master of Education for Elementary, Secondary and High School Teachers, subject: German). In addition, cooperation with neighboring subjects of the faculty and the TU as a whole as well as with non-university research institutions and general education schools in the Braunschweig region is desirable. Applicants should also have relevant experience and a scientific profile in at least two of the following areas:

• Orthography didactics
• Vocabulary education
• Didactics of oral communication
• Linguistic learning in a digital context
• Multilingualism

Our expectations

• Proven theoretical and empirical research expertise in German language education
• Proven experience in university teaching in German subject pedagogy
• Desire and ability to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration within the institute and faculty of the TU Braunschweig as well as with extramural research institutions focusing on STEM education and empirical educational science
• Experience and willingness to participate in academic self-administration as well as in scientific organisations and administration of study programmes
• Experience in securing and willingness to secure third-party funding
• Willingness to participate in the internationalization of the university as well as in research
• Willingness to support junior researchers

Requirements, § 25 NHG

• Completed university studies
• Proof of pedagogic-didactic suitability
• Experience in empirical research or at least three years of suitable experience in a pedagogy setting
• Exceptional ability to engage in extensive, independent scientific research, which – as a rule – is proven by an outstanding PhD, and
• Relevant postdoctoral qualification (Habilitation or equivalent)
