Professor (W3) of Systematic Theology
at the Faculty of Protestant Theology. This civil servant or public employee position will start as soon as possible.
The successful applicant is expected to represent the field of systematic theology across the full thematic range of the field. A special focus on theological ethics is desirable. Applicants should be distinguished by excellent academic publications in the above-mentioned subject area, also on an international level. Furthermore, a doctorate, a postdoctoral thesis (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification as well as outstanding research activities in theological ethics and/ or systematic theology are mandatory. This includes proof of relevant third-party funding initiatives.
The professorship involves teaching obligations (possibly also in English) in the entire area of systematic theology within the degree programmes administered by the department. In addition to a study programme qualifying for the Ministry and a Master’s Degree in Protestant Theology, the Department of Protestant Theology offers BA/MA study programmes in Religious Studies, teacher training courses in Protestant Religion at all levels and an extra-occupational Master’s degree in Protestant Theological Studies. It is also involved in the MA programme in Religious Philosophy and officially cooperates with the Institute for Protestant Theology at the Justus Liebig University of Giessen. Readiness to teach across departmental boundaries is desirable. Candidates should have a proven record of excellence in teaching.
Readiness to engage in close cooperation both within the department and on a cross-departmental level as well as to contribute to the interreligious and interdisciplinary research activities is a requirement, especially in the joint initiative “Dynamics of Religion” as well as in the Institute for Research in Philosophy of Religion (IRF). The duties also include participation in academic self-administration and third-mission activities. Active participation in the Goethe Graduate Academy (GRADE), the central university institution for the promotion of early career researchers in the humanities and social sciences, is desired.
The professorship is also involved in teacher training; experience and concepts for teaching subject content in schools are welcome.
The formal hiring requirements are defined in sections 67, and 68 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (Hessisches Hochschulgesetz).
Goethe University is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion. In particular, we are welcoming applications by qualified women and people with a migrant background. At Goethe University, a special emphasis is placed on creating and sustaining a family-friendly work and research environment. Where applicants are otherwise equally qualified, preference is given to candidates with disabilities or equivalent. The same applies to women in fields in which they are under-represented.
