Teaching and researching at a dynamic university for applied sciences in Faculty 2: Computer Science and Engineering
With Faculty 2, our largest faculty, we are the only university in the Frankfurt area to offer degree programs in the field of engineering. The department is divided into three multifaceted teaching tracks – electrical engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering – and is characterized by forward-looking, application-oriented and increasingly interdisciplinary teaching and research as well as a strong international network. Around 6,000 students and more than 80 lecturers belong to the department.

and Engineering Mechanics

As a job holder, you take responsibility of the study modules Mechatronic Design (Equipment Design) and Engineering Mechanics with the associated courses in the bachelor’s degree program Mechatronics and related courses of the faculty. Due to several years of work experience outside of the university in technical responsible positions of mechanical, electrical or mechatronic engineering, you have extensive experience in at least two of the following areas: Development and construction of electronic, mechanical, optical or medical components, devices, equipment or systems. You can be characterized by a holistic and systemic view, at the interface between mechanics, electronics and information technology.
Therefore, your competences lie in design of modern devices, from conception phase to detailed design, by considering sustainability aspects during changing boundary conditions, including the mechanical design and economic evaluations within a network of increasing complexity and digitalization. In addition, you possess German language skills on level C1/C2.
Job requirements:
In addition to being assigned to the aforementioned faculty, the post holder will become a member of one or both of the following interdisciplinary organisational units, in which it is expected that they make a professional contribution as a member of the professorship: School of Personal Development and Education (ScoPE), which deals with the personal development of students and the specific didactics of a university of applied sciences, and/or the HoST, which strengthens interdisciplinary research as a research transfer center
We expect our professors to:
- Be active members of our institution and to continuously support the students.
- Participate in introductory courses, i.e., teach subjects at an introductory level in all the faculty’s degrees.
- Have a predisposition and inclination to research and secure third-party funding.
- Show gender and diversity competence.
- Participate in the institution’s international activities, including teaching in English.
- Participate in the interdisciplinary Studium generale.
- Contribute to the institution’s offer regarding further education, lifelong learning and e-learning.
- Take on responsibility regarding academic self-administration.
- Be willing to pursue further training and professional development in their field of expertise and in higher education didactics.
- Cooperate with other educational institutions in the region.
- Show commitment and initiative as expected from a performance-related position.
This is a permanent position. The first appointment as a professor is as
a public-service employee on probation or with an unlimited employment contract with a 3-year long probation period.
