Teaching and researching at a dynamic university for applied sciences in Faculty 2: Computer Science and Engineering
With Faculty 2, our largest faculty, we are the only university in the Frankfurt area to offer degree programs in the field of engineering. The department is divided into three multifaceted teaching tracks – electrical engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering – and is characterized by forward-looking, application-oriented and increasingly interdisciplinary teaching and research as well as a strong international network. Around 6,000 students and more than 80 lecturers belong to the department.

Functional Safety of Software Systems

The position holder should represent the subject area "Functional Safety of Software Systems" in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in Computer Science. We are looking for a team player with a university degree in computer science or a comparable subject such as mathematics or physics as well as relevant industrial experience in the subject area of the position of at least 3 years.
In-depth knowledge in the area of functional safety of software systems is mandatory, potentially including physical components (cyber-physical systems), for example in the application areas of aviation, medical technology, or automotive technology. This also includes in-depth knowledge of functional safety standards such as IEC 61508, ISO 26262 or RTCA DO-178C/EUROCAE ED-12C.
In addition, knowledge in the development and application of Internet of Things (IoT), including smart sensors, would be desirable.
The position holder should have successfully implemented and applied this knowledge both in the scientific environment and in professional practice and represent it in our German- and English-language computer science degree programs. For this reason, a very good proficiency of both German and English is absolutely essential.
In addition to teaching courses in the above-mentioned areas, participation in teaching the fundamentals of computer science is also expected. Furthermore, a commitment to application-oriented research, such as networking with other research areas (machine learning, simulation, IoT, sensor technology, embedded systems) or participation in the WSN & IoT & DS research group is expected.
Ideally, the post holder will already have experience in research-oriented cooperation projects between universities and industry partners and will be interested in cooperative doctorates or in the university's PhD Centre Applied Computer Science.
As a brick-and-mortar university, we expect a high level of presence at the university and intensive supervision of students on site.

In addition to being assigned to the aforementioned faculty, the post holder will become a member of one or both of the following interdisciplinary organisational units, in which it is expected that they make a professional contribution as a member of the professorship: School of Personal Development and Education (ScoPE), which deals with the personal development of students and the specific didactics of a university of applied sciences, and/or the HoST, which strengthens interdisciplinary research as a research transfer center.
We expect our professors to:
- Be active members of our institution and to continuously support the students.
- Participate in introductory courses, i.e., teach subjects at an introductory level in all the faculty’s degrees.
- Have a predisposition and inclination to research and secure third-party funding.
- Show gender and diversity competence.
- Participate in the institution’s international activities, including teaching in English.
- Participate in the interdisciplinary Studium generale.
- Contribute to the institution’s offer regarding further education, lifelong learning and e-learning.
- Take on responsibility regarding academic self-administration.
- Be willing to pursue further training and professional development in their field of expertise and in higher education didactics.
- Cooperate with other educational institutions in the region.
- Show commitment and initiative as expected from a performance-related position.
This is a permanent position. The first appointment as a professor is as
a public-service employee on probation or with an unlimited employment contract with a 3-year long probation period.
