FMagdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences is seeking, for an unlimited period, to fill the following W2 professorship teaching 16 lecture periods per week in the Department of Engineering and Industrial Design at its Magdeburg site by 01.10.2021:
W2 Professor of Mathematics for Engineers
With its new and dynamic combination of subjects, the Department of Engineering and Industrial Design is a department with an interdisciplinary focus that offers undergraduate Bachelor's and consecutive Master's degree programmes in a variety of disciplines.
We are seeking to appoint a person who is interested in developing the profile areas of the university through practical teaching and applied research.
It is intended that the post-holder will primarily be deployed in teaching on the Bachelor's degree programmes in Electrical Engineering and Mechatronic Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to teach on the Master's degree programmes in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, and to supervise final dissertations. Furthermore, it is expected that he or she will be prepared to teach scientific principles (e.g. Physics) on other courses and beyond the immediate area of the appointment. Active participation in interdisciplinary student projects and other degree programmes offered by the department (such as Human-Technology Interaction) would be desirable. To support the internationalisation of our courses, some classes should be conducted in English.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in academic self-governance tasks and the organisation of teaching and studies, as well as the development of the study programmes. You will naturally also demonstrate a commitment to technology and knowledge transfer.
You will be a person with proven scientific expertise, preferably with a doctorate in the field of Engineering or Applied Mathematics, will have undertaken many years of successful activity in industry or related research institutions, and relevant experience in the application of mathematical and numerical methods of modelling and simulation of engineering problems, preferably in the fields of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. You will boast excellent didactic skills, have experience in academic teaching, will enjoy conveying mathematical principles to others and take an interest in modern, interactive teaching methods.
You will demonstrate in-depth knowledge and expertise in the following fields
Principles of mathematics for engineering
Computing mathematics (e.g. MATLAB)
Applied numerical mathematics
and have strong interdisciplinary teamwork skills.
Over and above this, knowledge and expertise in the field of e-learning and the digitisation of teaching will be explicitly welcomed.
Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding and the support of research projects will be advantageous. Given the increasing internationalisation of the university, you will ideally have excellent knowledge of both written and spoken English. Experience abroad is also desirable.
General Conditions of Employment:
The conditions of employment for professors are contained in § 35 of the Higher Education Act of Saxony-Anhalt (HSG LSA) dated 05.05.2004 and most, recently amended by the Act Amending the Provisions of the Higher Education Act dated 26.07.2010 (official gazette 19/2010) as amended, and the Guidelines on the Procedures for Appointing Professors at Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences dated 13.06.2018 (BerufungsRL) as amended.
The ability to conduct scientific work must be evidenced by the quality of the doctorate held by the successful candidate. In particular, for professors in universities of applied sciences, it is the case that in accordance with § 35 para. 2 no. 4b HSG LSA, specific achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods must have been demonstrated in professional practice of several years' duration, of which at least three years must have been outside the higher education sphere.
What we offer:
A post remunerated at W2 level is available for the professorship. (Remuneration Order W from the Act Reforming Remuneration Law in the State of Saxony-Anhalt (BesNeuRG LSA, official gazette 04/2011) as amended).
Subject to fulfilment of the requirements, the successful candidate will be appointed to the rank of civil servant with unlimited tenure or alternatively to an unlimited employment relationship under private law, in accordance with § 38 para. 1 sentence 9 HSG LSA.
