The Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) is one of the world's leading art universities with a long tradition. It is an important partner in Berlin’s network of culture, art and science and artistic activities in Berlin. More than 200 professors, around 250 employees in art and sciences, and around 300 employees in administration, libraries, service and technology work at the UdK Berlin. More than 4,000 students (30 % of them international) are enrolled in over 70 degree programmes at the four colleges of Fine Arts/Architecture, Media and Design/Music, and Performing Arts, as well as at the Central Institute for Continued Education (ZIW), the Inter-University Centre for Dance (HZT) and the Jazz Institute Berlin (JIB). The UdK Berlin offers teacher education programmes in the subjects of Fine Arts, Music and Theatre/Performing Arts. The UdK Berlin is one of the few art colleges in Germany with the right to confer doctorates and post-doctoral qualifications.
Through the diverse activities of its members, the institution contributes to a culture of exchange with Berlin’s civil society and the global audience that is both artistically and academically guided. Its institutional understanding of a relevant practice within the arts and sciences draws upon a dialogue with the social, political, technological and artistic challenges of the 21st century.
The UdK Berlin, Design Faculty – Institute of Transmedia Design –, is seeking to appoint a:

Permanent full-time professorship
Field of teaching: Design of and with digital media
Teaching obligation: 18 course hours (LVS)
Start of service of the professorship: 1 October 2024

Duties the open position offers:
tuition and research in the above-mentioned subject on the bachelor and master's visual communication degree courses, the main focus being on teaching conceptual design of visual communication and technologies for shaping human-machine interaction using digital processes and systems, formal algorithmic languages, and virtual and physical realities
further development of the subject by means of critical discourse, experimentation and research
active participation in the academic self-administration of the institute
a degree (master's or comparable) in a field relevant to the subject area
proof of outstanding, artistic/creative professional practice, preferably in an international environment
proof of several years of relevant teaching experience
proof of analytical and conceptual skills as well as a forward-looking approach to digital methods and technologies in experimental formats and applied problem solving
analytical ability and critical reflection of the effects of algorithmic processes on society, taking technological, socio-political, ecological and economic dimensions into consideration
competence and a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration on cross-media design projects in culture, science and business with the aim of gaining insights through design
Knowledge of development, evaluation and implementation constraints for solving design tasks and methods
appointment requirements in accordance with § 100 of Berlin Act on Higher Education (BerlHG)
