The Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin) is one of the largest, most diverse and well-established art universities in the world – with around 4,000 students, 30% of whom are international students. The range of study programmes offered by the Colleges of Fine Arts, Architecture, Media and Design, Music, and Performing Arts as well as the Berlin Career College, the Jazz Institute Berlin and the lnter-University Centre for Dance Berlin covers the whole spectrum of the arts and art-related studies in over 70 degree programmes. With its right to confer doctorate and post-doctorate degrees, the UdK Berlin is also one of the few higher education institutions for the arts in Germany with university status. Teachers in art, music, and theatre are also educated at the UdK Berlin, the only university in Berlin where these subjects can be studied. Around 200 artistic and academic professors, about 250 research and artistic assistants and lecturers, and around 300 employees in administration, libraries, service and technology work at the UdK Berlin. Offering around 700 events per year, the UdK Berlin is also a key actor in Berlin's cultural landscape.
The UdK Berlin, College of Music, is seeking to appoint a:

Professor at a university of art (f/m/d)

– Salary group W 2 –
Permanent full-time professorship
Field of teaching: Piano performance and piano methodology
Teaching obligation: 18 course hours (LVS)

Start of service of the
professorship: 1 October 2023

Reference number: 3/342/22

Duties the open position offers:
  • Piano tuition in the music education degree course, as well as in the courses for secondary school music teachers and, where required, also teaching junior courses at the Julius Stern Institute
  • Instruction in piano methodology in all forms of teaching provided for in the study regulations (theoretical seminar, teaching practice, demonstration lessons, elective courses for artistic training students)
  • Teaching of the subject in all its aspects (theory and history of piano performance, literature/educational repertoire, methodology of elementary instruction)
  • Work on the further development of the course in collaboration with the study programme leadership
  • Cultivation and intensification of co-operation with music schools in Berlin and Brandenburg  
Requirements:
  • An artistic and educational university degree (Bachelor/Master)
  • Several years of experience both in teaching children and young people and also at university level
  • Concert experience desired
  • Individual focuses (e.g. experience with new media, new music, improvisation, inclusion or similar) is desirable
  • An excellent command of spoken and written German
  • Willingness to assist in academic self-administration
  • Appointment requirements in accordance with § 100 of Berlin Act on Higher Education (BerlHG)
