The Leibniz Universität Hannover has an opening for a
Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f)
Data Science, Big Geospatial Data, Robotics
(salary scale 14 TV-L)
specializing on “representation and analysis of weakly structured geospatial data“ in the Research Training Group (RTG) “Integrity and Collaboration in Dynamic Sensor Networks (i.c.sens)“ funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). This position is available from December 1st, 2016 for a duration of three years.
The RTG is dedicated to investigating techniques that can ensure the error-free operation of technology in the context of the ever-increasing interactions between humans and robots. In the future, collaborative sensor networks that can guarantee integrity will be core components of automated or autonomous vehicles, but also of systems in the context of the fourth industrial revolution (“Industry 4.0“), in the construction industry and in service robotics.
A cross-cutting methodological topic of the RTG is software engineering, in terms of the composition and integration of the development of a „work-bench collaborative integrity“. Representation and analysis of large quantities of weakly structured spatial data using the Hadoop/Apache Spark eco-system as well as GPGPU systems is required, covering aspects such as parallel computing, machine learning, optimization, as well as exploration of parameter spaces. The Postdoc (m/f) shall conduct independent research in this area in collaboration with the partners in the RTG.
We offer an attractive employment in an interdisciplinary team in an outstanding research environment. Candidates (m/f) will work in a highly topical, relevant, and dynamic research area, which allows for an excellent qualification. i.c.sens provides a unique setting for interdisciplinary collaboration of experts in the fields of navigation, robotics, computer vision, control, geodesy and geoinformatics.
We are looking for a candidate (m/f) with a strong background and very good PhD/doctoral degree in one of the disciplines of the RTG, with special focus on software engineering and big geospatial data processing. A very good command of the English language is required. The candidate (m/f) will bring in his/her methodological expertise into both the research and the course program of the RTG.
Part-time employment can be arranged on request.
As an equal opportunities employer, Leibniz Universität Hannover intends to promote women in the context of statutory requirements. For this reason suitably qualified women are specifically invited to apply. Equally qualified applicants with disabilities will be given preferential treatment.
Please send your application in German or English in electronic form (PDF) until August 22, 2016 to the following address: firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications must include CV, full academic record as well as a research statement (two pages) highlighting your motivation, interest and personal strengths, and your research ideas for the field “Representation and analysis of weakly structured geospatial data“.
The supervisors of the Research Training Group will invite suitable candidates (m/f) for a selection workshop to be held on September 13, 2016 in Hannover, Germany.
