The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. Your responsibilities include:
Development, validation, and field testing of a distributed fiber optic acoustic sensing system (DAS) based on coherent optical time domain reflectometry (C-OTDR), for condition and safety monitoring in geotechnics using existing telecommunications fiber optic cables.
Master’s degree (good degree) in electrical engineering or comparable with specialization in the field of optical communications technology / photonics as well as Ph.D. degree with at least good final grade
Profound knowledge and experience in the development and application of distributed fiber optic sensor systems (especially distributed fiber optic acoustic sensors)
Experience in the development of fiber optic measurement techniques based on coherent optical time domain reflectometry (C-OTDR)
Very good programming skills in Python
Very good knowledge and experience in digital signal processing
Knowledge and experience in the application of methods in the field of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) for measurement data processing
Good command of German and English, both written and spoken
Good communication and information skills, goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/commitment and ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate as well as conceptual, strategic, and innovative thinking skills
Interdisciplinary research at the interface of politics, economics and society
Work in national and international networks with universities, research institutes and industrial companies
