The Helmholtz research group "Nanoscale Operando CO2 Photo-Electrocatalysis" headed by Dr. Christopher Kley at the Helmholtz Center Berlin for Materials and Energy
and the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society, Department of Interface Science (Prof. Beatriz Roldan Cuenya) focuses on material synthesis and nanoscale
understanding of solid / liquid interfaces for applications in catalysis and energy conversion.
We offer a full-time postdoctoral researcher to work on the characterization of novel electro- and photoelectrocatalytic materials employing high spatiotemporal
resolution atomic force microscopy under reaction conditions in liquid phase. Upon adapting existing cutting-edge AFM methodologies and protocols, the morphological
and electronic properties of selected materials will be investigated in-situ / operando under external stimuli. Combined with advanced spectroscopic characterization
tools and catalytic reactivity studies, nanoscale structure-property relationships at solid-liquid interfaces will be derived to guide the rational design of catalytic materials.
Your Profile Required
PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, or appropriate field related to surface science and / or physical chemistry.
Proven expertise in environmental atomic force microscopy (e.g. c-AFM, KPFM or electrochemical AFM) or electrochemical scanning tunneling microscopy and data analysis.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Self-motivated, detail- and goal-oriented with excellent problem solving skills in a multi-disciplinary team.
Good data collection, analysis, and presentation skills.
Proven track record with scanning probe high-resolution imaging in liquids.
Knowledge about electrochemistry and nanoscale characterization methods.
Stimulating interdisciplinary environment with unique access to state-of-the-art synthesis and characterization tools, cutting edge research facilities and collaborations at HZB and FHI.
Work place at the Fritz Haber Institute located in the quiet south-west of Germany's capital Berlin, which is a large, tolerant and cosmopolitan city offering a wide variety of culture, art, music, and outdoor opportunities.

What we offer
Fixed term contract for 24 months . The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
