The Department of Pediatric Radiology provides inpatients and outpatients of Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin with state-of-the-art imaging diagnostics and image-guided therapy in the entire field of pediatric radiology. In doing so, we cooperate closely with the clinics and facilities of pediatric and adolescent medicine at Charité.
Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate within the Department of Pediatric Radiology. This position is funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) for the project "Development and clinical testing of UTE sequences for functional lung imaging." (see

The project is a multi-center interdisciplinary collaboration with Prof. Herbert Köstler at the Section for Experimental Radiology (Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, University Hospital of Würzburg).
Your area of responsibility:
This project calls for an enthusiastic and self-motivated early career researcher interested in working at the intersection between MR physics / sequence development and clinical pediatric radiology. As a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Pediatric Radiology you will develop pulse sequences for the acquisition of new MR-data and algorithms for their reconstruction and analysis. You will investigate the diagnostic relevance of the newly developed methods in close cooperation with the pediatric radiologists. As the successful candidate, you will join a small but enthusiastic team with interests in pediatric imaging research. In addition to the above project, the selected candidate may contribute to other ongoing projects in the department as well as define their own projects.
- In this appointment, you will have the opportunity to disseminate your research via peer-reviewed journals or abstracts and you will be supported in your continuing professional development. Charité and its affiliated institutions regularly offer courses on grant writing, project management, supervision, and leadership.

Your profile:
Candidates should have, or expect to soon obtain, a PhD in a relevant discipline and experience in imaging, image processing, machine / deep learning. They must also have solid coding skills. We expect a strong motivation to contribute to the building of an imaging research group at the Department of Pediatric Radiology. The vacant position provides the groundwork for basic research in the field of pediatric imaging. The goal is to expand the scientific staff through future funding.Thus, a strong motivation to work on external funding applications is required. The position may be full-time or part-time.
- PhD in the field of physics, medical physics, biomedical engineering, or comparable
- Strong programming skills (preferably C++, Python, or MATLAB)
- High motivation, independent work style, ability to work in an interdisciplinary team
- Motivation for working on future grant applications
- Experimental skills
- Good knowledge of spoken and written English
