The Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies (MPIfG) offers up to two postdoctoral
positions starting on October 1, 2020. The positions are part of the project
area headed by Jens Beckert in the field of economic sociology. For more information
on the current research interests within the project area, please go to www.mpifg.de/people/jb1/forschung_en.asp.
The MPIfG conducts basic research on the governance of modern societies. It aims to
develop an empirically based theory of the social and political foundations of modern
economies by investigating the interrelation between social, economic, and political
action. Building on the disciplinary traditions of sociology and political science, the
Institute's research program aims to combine and develop the approaches of economic
sociology and comparative and international political economy.
The Institute provides an attractive environment for postdoctoral researchers to pursue
their own research projects within the scope of the research program. The positions
for postdoctoral researchers are offered on a two-year contract according to the
German public service wage agreement (TVöD E 13), inclusive of social security and
employee benefits. Postdoctoral researchers are expected to reside in the Cologne area
and actively participate in the intellectual life of the Institute.
The successful candidates will be chosen on the basis of scholarly excellence, a research
proposal outlining a project to be pursued at the MPIfG, and an in-person or video job
Applications are welcome until January 31, 2020. Please apply online by going to https://jobs.mpifg.de, where you will be asked to upload your application in English
as a single PDF file. Applicants will be notified in April 2020. The Max Planck Society
is an equal opportunities employer and follows this principle in all its hiring and employment
