The discourse on the UN’s sustainability goals, the global and national climate protection targets, and the energy
transition conclude that the energy system will be changed drastically in the future. This will require a reorganization
of the opportunities for individual actors to take action in the energy system. The new energy world does not function
solely from top-down decisions, but precisely because of its diversity – the diversity of the actors, the diversity
of energy sources, and the variety of system solutions. We aim to integrate key elements of behavioral aspects, air pollution
control strategies and multi-criteria decision making processes into energy and climate policy models to analyze how socio-economic
changes and systems interactions impact the implementation of energy and climate policy. For this, we are offering, subject to
the approval of project funding, a post-doctoral position with the possibility to set up a research group within the department
for Energy Economics and System Analysis at the Institute of Energy Economics and Rational Energy Use (IER) of University of
The successful candidate will investigate the potential role of different actors in the context of the energy transition on a national
and on an international level as well as for fast-growing metropolitan regions. Theoretical models followed by numerical applications
will be a central tool of the analysis to explore their contribution to design the transition to a low-carbon economy.
PhD in Engineering or Economics
excellent scientific track record and relevant publications
deep experience in formal, quantitative methods, excellent analytical skills and interest in theoretical and applied modeling (e.g. GAMS)
high intrinsic motivation and proven experience in managing research projects
experience in acquiring third party funded research projects
team-oriented, excellent communication skills in English as well as willingness to learn German

The position will initially be funded for 24 months with a salary according to the German public tariff scheme (100% E13 TVL)
with a possibility to extend. The envisaged starting date for the position is as soon as possible. The University of Stuttgart
