“City of Science”, lies near the center of Germany, the University Medical Center Göttingen
is embedded in the city’s attractive network of scientific research facilities.
The prospective 3-year Ph.D. project "Redox regulation of ryanodine receptor/Ca2+
release channels by Nox enzymes in hypertrophy and heart failure” aims to investigate
molecular redox mechanisms, which contribute to cellular calcium regulation,
mitochondrial dysfunction, cardiac arrhythmias and heart failure. State-of-the-art
approaches using rapid calcium-sensitive dye imaging, FRET, epifluorescence, and
confocal microscopy are combined with patch-clamp electrophysiology. Previously
established murine pathology and biosensor models will be applied to study cellular
and complementary biochemical processes.
Students will conduct a part of their project in the partnering laboratory in London and
may obtain a joint doctoral degree from both institutions (eligibility criteria apply).
