PhD student position (f/m/d) in Evolution and Ecology
Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen
PhD student position (m/f/d, E 13 TV-L, 50%)
in Evolution and Ecology
The Institute of Evolution and Ecology at the Department of Biology seeks a highly motivated PhD student in visual ecology of marine predator-prey interactions.
The Animal Evolutionary Ecology group investigates co-evolution between camouflage and visual detection in benthic fish species. We use state-of-the-art spectroradiometry and behavioural experiments in the
field and in saltwater labs in Tübingen. In situ experiments in the field are carried out for up to two months per year (Corsica, Red Sea, Sulawesi). PhD supervision is embedded in the graduate programme EVEREST.
We are looking for enthusiastic scientists with a MSc (or equivalent) in Biology (e.g. behavioural ecology, neuro-ethology, biophysics, morphology, bioinformatics). Advanced English communication skills as well as excellent teamwork abilities are expected. SCUBA diving experience is not a requirement but can be an asset.
This is an institutional position including a teaching requirement of 2 hours per week.
Employment will be carried out by the central administration of the University Tübingen. The pay grade E13 refers to the German federal public service scale (TV-L). The position is for 50% and limited to three years. The successful candidate will also be integrated in applications for extra-mural funding with senior team members.
The University seeks to raise the number of women in research and teaching and therefore urges qualified women to apply. Qualified international researchers are explicitly invited to apply. Equally qualified applicants with disabilities will be given preference.
We shall start screening applications from 25 October 2021 but will continue to accept submissions until the position is filled. The earliest starting date is 1 January 2022.
