Your responsibilities include:
The position is made available through the EU-funded STOP project (Surface Transfer of Pathogens). The aim of the project is the synthesis, characterization, and optimization of antimicrobial nanoparticles that can be used as coatings for high touch surfaces to restrict the transmission of pathogens in the future. Your responsibilities in the project include:
- Synthesis of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles of different sizes and with different surface properties
- Synthesis of core-shell particles based on these metal/metal oxide nanoparticles as cores and (porous) silica shells
- Characterization of the core and core-shell particles, as well as testing and optimizing the release of the antimicrobially active components
- Surface functionalization of the particles with further antimicrobially active components such as antimicrobial peptides, polymers, etc.
- Optimization of the particle properties regarding further important characteristics for the intended application, such as adhesion, colloidal stability, wear, toxicity, etc.
- Attending project meetings
Your qualifications:
- University degree (Diploma, Master) in Chemistry or related fields
- Very good knowledge in synthetic chemistry and practical synthetic work in chemical laboratories
- Hands-on experience with the synthesis and characterization of nano- and advanced materials
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Command of the German language is highly advantageous
- Writing reports and publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Good communication and information skills, ability to work and collaborate in a team, flexibility, initiative/commitment, and a conceptual, strategic, and innovative way of thinking
