The Deptartment of Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital Dresden is one of the leading surgical departments for cancer treatment in Europe. Implemented within the department is the Surgical Research Lab, which links molecular science with patient oriented research. The lab is part of a multidisciplinary team of laboratories specialized in oncological and stem cell research on the Dresden University Campus, nationwide and internationally, including the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD), the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG) Dresden, the NCT Dresden and Heidelberg, the Max-Delbrück Centre in Berlin and the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA, Austria).
Starting at September 1st, 2023 we are looking for a highly motivated
PhD Student (f/m/x)
The group headed by Daniel Stange concentrates on adult stem cells and cancer of the gastro-intestinal tract. We are interested in the biology of stem cells in normal homeostasis, tissue regeneration and malignant transformation. We use state of the art technologies such as conditional mouse lines and 3D cultures (so called organoids) of mouse and human material in connection with genetic manipulation using CRISPR/Cas to tackle our research questions. Furthermore, we extensively use patient-derived cancer organoids to understand the biology behind therapy response and resistance patterns.
Your Profile:
- Master or equivalent degree in biology, biomedicine or related sciences
- strong background in cell biology/molecular biology
- interest in advanced cell culture methods and molecular Engineering
- fluent in written and spoken English
- interest in clinical related science
We offer:
- As part of our group you have the possibility to expand your skills in molecular biology, specifically in organoid cultures and their genetic manipulation.
