The Dept. of Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital Dresden is one of the leading surgical departments for cancer treatment in Europe. Implemented within the department is the Surgical Research Lab, which links molecular science with patient oriented research. The lab is part of several research initiatives joining oncological and stem cell labs on the Dresden University Campus, including the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD), the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG), the NCT Dresden and Heidelberg, the Max-Delbrück Centre in Berlin and the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA, Austria).

PhD Student (f/m/x)
Cancer research
The group headed by Daniel Stange concentrates on adult stem cells and cancer of the gastro-intestinal tract. We are interested in the biology of stem cells in normal homeostasis, tissue regeneration and malignant transformation. We use state of the art technologies such as conditional mouse lines and 3D cultures (so called organoids) of mouse and human material in connection with genetic manipulation using CRISPR/Cas9 to tackle our research questions. Furthermore, we extensively use patient-derived cancer organoids to understand the biology behind therapy response and resistance patterns
Your Profile:
- Master of Science (M.Sc.) or equivalent in biology, biomedicine or related sciences
- A high degree of reliability, team spirit and motivation
- Structured, conscientious and self-organized way of working
- Strong background in cell and molecular biology
- Interest in mouse animal experimental work and advanced cell culture methods
- Fluent written and spoken English
