Start your mission with DLR
The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is the national aeronautics and space research centre and the space agency of the Federal Republic of
Germany. Here, 8000 employees work together on a unique variety of topics in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security
and digitalisation. Their missions range from basic research to the development of innovative applications and products for tomorrow. Cutting-edge research requires excellent
minds - particularly more females - at all levels, who fully achieve their potential in an inspiring environment. Launch your mission with us.
For our Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics at the Helmholtz Institute for Electrochemical Energy Storage (HIU) in Ulm, we wish to recruit a qualified
PhD Student Physics, Mechanical or Process Engineering, Mathematics or similar
Modelling & Simulation of Batteries
With over 150 employees, the Institute of Technical Thermodynamics at DLR conducts research in the field of efficient energy storage systems and next-generation energy conversion technologies.
The department of Computational Electrochemistry at the Helmholtz Institute for Electrochemical Energy Storage (HIU) is developing new theories and simulation tools for battery materials and cells. As part of the ground-breaking battery research in the science city of Ulm, we operate at the interface of basic research and applied research. As part of an interdisciplinary team, we investigate physical-chemical processes - from the nanoscale to the macroscale - and develop innovative new batteries for electromobility and stationary energy storage.
We are looking for:
Ph.D. students to research complex and socially highly relevant issues for various projects in the field of lithium-ion, metal-sulphur, metal-ion and solid-state batteries.
As a member of an internationally renowned research team in the field of battery simulation, you will develop continuum models from the nano to the cell scale and thus improve understanding, performance and service life of future battery technologies. Our group participates in the Cluster of Excellence POLiS for Post-Lithium Systems and the Graduate School for Electrochemical Energy Storage at CELEST.
We offer you access to excellent cutting-edge research, space for your own ideas and international visibility. In close collaboration with our national and international project partners in industry and science, you will make an important contribution to the understanding, development and optimization of this key technology and actively shape the future of our society.
