Part-time position
Universitätsklinikum Jena

At the Institute of Physiology II – Cardiovascular Physiology of the University Hospital Jena, one position are available:
PhD Student (m/f/d) part-time
(reference number: 144/2021), initially limited to 3 years
The institute’s research focus are structurefunction relations of ligand-gated and voltagegated ion channels, which are investigated in different systems using electrophysiological, fluorescence-optical, and mathematical methods. Within the DFG Research Unit 2518 'DynIon', headed by K. Benndorf, we collaborate closely with experimental and theoretical groups all over Germany.
In this environment, the candidate will work on the following research project:
“Binding and gating in P2X channels”. Various fully functional fluorescent ATP derivatives have been developed to characterize heterologously expressed P2X receptor subtypes, which are important e.g. in processing pain and inflammation.
Requirements:
A respective degree in natural science is expected. Experiences in ion channel biophysics, including electrophysiological or molecular biology techniques are of advantage. Opportunities for using fluorescence microscopy and patch-clamp fluorometry are provided. An interest in both learning and applying mathematical approaches for data analysis is expected.
The position involve respective teaching commitments, preferentially practical courses. Previous experience in teaching physiology is not required.
