The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH)– Member of the Leibniz Association is offering a
PhD Student (Doctoral Researcher, 100%) (f/m/d)
assigned to the Department of Structural Change and Productivity and IWH’s Competitiveness Research Network (CompNet) group, starting at the earliest possible date.
IWH is a leading economics institute with a focus on productivity research and a strong international perspective. CompNet
is a research network covering researchers from the European System of Central Banks, the EU Commission and National Statistical Institutes of EU member states, as well as a number
of distinguished scholars from world-leading academic institutions and international organisations. CompNet studies cross-country competitiveness while assuming that competitiveness
originates, ultimately, at the micro-level.
The position is initially offered for two years but an extension by two additional years is intended. It is considered suitable for part-time work. The place of employment is Halle (Saale), Germany.

What we expect
You hold a high-quality master’s degree in economics or related fields and have a solid background in microeconometrics. Ideally, you have some experience with empirical
work and feel comfortable with programming languages like Stata or R. You have a strong interest in empirical productivity research. You possess the skills to present complex
questions in English and you work independently and well organised. You are open to get in touch with the national and international scientific community and to cooperate with
IWH researchers. Your main area of work will be in the CompNet group, which encompasses both empirical research and contributing to running the CompNet project. Participation
in the IWH Doctoral Program in Economics (IWH-DPE) and the Central-German Doctoral Program in Economics (CGDE), which IWH organises jointly with neighboring universities, is obligatory.
