PhD scholarships for the Doctoral Programme in Governance
Call for applications
12 PhD scholarships at the Hertie School
We accept applications for the Doctoral Programme in Governance between 1 December 2019 and 31 January 2020 for candidates starting in September 2020.
The Hertie School is part of a vibrant research hub in the heart of Berlin and closely cooperates with leading doctoral programmes in Europe. It offers doctoral education in the social sciences in an international and multidisciplinary setting. To find answers to today's social, political, legal and economic challenges our doctoral researchers work with distinguished scholars in their discipline or at one of our Centres of competence. Rigorous academic training, close supervision and institutional support, and the opportunity to develop professional skills prepare our PhDs for leading academic and non-academic careers.
We are interested in applications from candidates with an exceptionally strong master's degree (or equivalent) in economics, law, political science, sociology, public administration, management, or related fields. The master‘s degree should be completed before entering the programme. We especially encourage women and international candidates to apply.
Key selection criteria are the thematic fit of the dissertation proposal with the research agenda of the Hertie School's faculty or Centres of Competence (Centre for Digital Governance, Centre for Fundamental Rights, Centre for International Security, Jacques Delors Centre), the applicant's academic performance and references, and the overall motivation.
